  • Paper Streets of Pittsburgh

    Last year Harvard Graduate student, Anna Cawrse, received a Penny White Grant to study the paper streets of Pittsburgh. She came to visit our city, walked StepTrek, and had a great time. Click here to read her thoughts: Paper Streets of Pittsburgh

    Come to StepTrek this October 5 to see for yourself how the South Side Slopes Neighborhood Association is improving the neighborhood ‘one step at a time.’

  • Election of Board of Directors

    At our Tuesday October 15 General Meeting we will have an election of new members for our Board of Directors.

    Mark Zalenchak and Fr. Donald Ware are stepping down from the Board. We thank them for their efforts and energies spent in service to our neighborhood.

    Two slopes members have been nominated thus far for the Board: Cara Jette and Dawn Lorincy. The current Officers of the Board have unanimously approved of their nomination. (See By Laws, Article VI, Section 5.) Any others wanting to be considered must contact Brian Oswald, Board President.

    Voting Members of SSSNA are eligible to vote at the October Meeting. Voting Members must be eighteen years old or older and have attended at least two General Meetings this past year. (See By Laws, Article IV, Section 1.)

  • MINI GARDEN PRIMER

    South Side Community Council and the South Side Slopes Neighborhood Association invite you to a Grow Pittsburgh Education Session: MINI GARDEN PRIMER. Monday, February 27th at the Brashear Association from 6pm to 8pm.

    “Don’t know the first thing about vegetable gardening, but want to learn? Never even picked up a spade? Fear not – Our Mini Garden Primer will cover all the basics, including which tools beginner gardeners will need, what and where to plant, and when to harvest. In addition, those taking part in the course will be given step-by-step instruction on everything from starting a compost to properly transplanting seedlings.”

    This workshop is open to the public. In addition, anyone interested in getting a garden plot in the new South Side Community Garden at Bandi Shaum Field should sign up at http://www.pittsburghpa.gov/publicworks/gardenplots/.

  • Christmas Party

    Join us! Tuesday December 13th is our annual Christmas/Holiday party. As in the past, dinner will be provided by the SSSNA, and you are welcome to bring a favorite side dish or dessert. It’s a great opportunity to meet your neighbors. Festivities begin 7:00pm at St. Paul of the Cross Monastery Retreat Center, 148 Monastery Avenue.

  • Tree Planting This Saturday!

    Join us this Saturday 11/19 at 10 AM at the 18th Street entrance to South Side Park to plant ten new trees. Registration is required. Please go to http://www.paconserve.org/300 to reserve your spot.

    Our next general meeting will be held on Tuesday October 11 PM at St Paul’s. We hope to see you there!

  • Meeting Cancelled

    Due to the anticipated snowfall this evening, the SSSNA meeting has been CANCELLED.  The meeting will be rescheduled for Tuesday, February 15th at 7:00 in St Paul’s Retreat Center, 148 Monastery Avenue.

  • Community Block Party, Backpack Giveaway, and Kids Bash

    On August 10th -13th, LifeStone Church will be hosting a variety of FUN and FREE activities for South Side families to enjoy:

    Tues- Thurs, August 10th, 11th, & 12th – Jungle Mania Kids! An interactive kid’s bash service with music, games, prizes, and more! Festivities will be taking place at W.Y.E.P (67 Bedford Square) starting at 7pm.

    Friday, August 13th – Community Block Party & Backpack Giveaway! Join us for FREE food, games, inflatables, cotton candy, and more! Plus, the first 250 elementary age students in line will receive FREE backpacks filled with school supplies! The event will be taking place at Armstrong Field (13th and Sarah St.) from 6-8pm.

    All events are FREE and no pre-registration is required.

  • Summer Celebration

    Join us at games n’at at 6:30 on Tuesday July 13th for our Summer Picnic.  Burger and Hot Dogs will be provided.  If you can, bring a side dish or desert to share.  Stay tuned for more information.

  • General Meeting – 6/8 – Brashear Association

    Side Slopes Neighborhood Association will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday evening, June 8th, at St. Paul of the Cross Retreat Center.  The meeting will begin at 7:00 PM.

    Jenn Jeffers from the Brashear Association will be with us to talk about Brashear’s Christmas in July toy drive.

    This will be a short meeting. After the meeting we will proceed to a neighborhood service project, perhaps some weeding and gardening at one of our neighborhood gardens. If you want to help us with that, please come dressed for it and bring a gardening tool if you have one.
