Welcome to StepTrek 2024! This is our digital narrative. Click one of the route images below to walk the route and read the narrative.
Pittsburgh StepTrek is the annual South Side Slopes Neighborhood Association fundraiser that supports projects for the betterment of the community. The 2024 routes will take a tour of the hillsides and spectacular views that distinguish Pittsburgh as you explore the South Side Slopes over 9 miles and 3,831 steps.
The Gold Route (west), sets the StepTrek record as the longest route- 5.34 miles, with the most steps, 2,411. The West Route starts off with the UPMC Mercy Big Bell Climb (303 steps) at the Oakley Way Steps. You can take a break around the mid-way point and enjoy an acoustic set by musician Brad Yoder at the Knoxville Incline Greenway.
The Black Route (east), at 1,420 steps and 3.72 miles includes the mosaic on the Oakley Way steps and the newly completed mural on the Arlington Recreation Center as you enter South Side Park. The East Route water bottle refill station is located at “The Fort” where you’ll also find event sponsor, Mary Dowd (Compass Real Estate).
There’s lots of photo ops on this year’s routes so don’t forget to tag us in your pics, @SouthSideSlopes and #StepTrek.
